Narasingha Deba of the Ganga dynasty

Pic 1

Narasingha Deba of the Ganga dynasty, 13th-century Odisha. Konarka has a good number of panels featuring The king. For some reason it is always fascinating to get an idea of how the famous people of yore looked like.

A few other portraits. This one shows him in a swing, probably during the celebration of a spring festival. Haladhara Mishra's Vasantotsavam describes such celebrations. The sword is done away with; he only has a small dagger (କଟୁରୀ) on his belt. Notice the chain and the tunics.

Here's the third. This shows him as a valiant warrior. The bow in his hand has been broken off. What is interesting is the arrows actually pierce out of the other side of a block.
